Pembroke Athleta Athletes Shine with Record-Breaking Performances at 2025 London Indoor Games

London, January 2025 – Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon Club has wrapped up a spectacular weekend at the 2025 London Indoor Games held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre. Competing in the U13, U15, and U17 categories, the club’s young athletes achieved an extraordinary milestone, setting nine new National Records, showcasing their talent and determination on the international stage.


Exceptional Performances Across Events


The competition saw remarkable achievements from the Pembroke Athleta contingent:


Jacques Borg broke his own Under-16 Indoor National Record in the U17 60m sprint with a winning time of 7.27 seconds.


Jack Borg Pullicino set a new Under-16 Indoor National Record in the 400m, clocking 54.46 seconds.


Karina Mia Peresso set a new Girls Under-14 Indoor National Record in the 800m with a time of 2:32.38, finishing 3rd in her heat.


Jack Herrera Role dominated the Boys Under-14 800m, setting a new National Record of 2:32.94.


Sophie Cassar Torregiani delivered a strong performance in the Girls Under-16 800m event, finishing 3rd in her heat with a time of 2:31.17, setting a new National Record for her age category.


Carl Grech raised the bar in the Boys Under-16 High Jump, improving on his previous Indoor National Record by clearing 1.60m, a 5cm improvement over his previous best set at this same venue last year. Carl finished at the top of Group 2.



Additionally, guest athlete Jamie Borg, who has been nurtured by Pembroke’s coaching team over the past year, delivered a historic performance:


Jamie broke the Under-14 Indoor National Record in the 60m twice in a single day, running 8.05 seconds in Round 1 and improving it to 8.04 seconds shortly after.

To close the weekend, Jamie set a new Under-14 200m Indoor National Record, clocking an impressive 27.18 seconds.



A Weekend to Remember


Under the leadership of Ms. Angie Spiteri, and coaches Luca Falzon, Maria Ghigo, and Ian Paul Grech, the 42 athletes from Pembroke Athleta, supported by a dedicated group of parents and relatives, delivered outstanding performances.


“The London Indoor Youth Games continue to prove fruitful for our young stars,” said Ms. Spiteri. “The athletes have displayed exceptional determination and talent, and their results are a testament to the hard work put in by everyone involved. We are also proud of the performance of Jamie Borg, who represents the bright future of Maltese athletics.”
